The official opening of Leitrim Community Training Centre recently took place at their custom-designed premises at Park Lane, Carrick-on-Shannon.
The event was opened by Michael Glennon, Chairperson, CTC who then introduced key speakers Cllr Finola Armstrong-McGuire, Cathaoirleach, Leitrim County Council, Shaun Purcell, CE, MSLETB and Gavin Dykes, General Manager, CTC. Following official proceedings those who attended were taken on a guided tour of the centre which gave them the opportunity to meet with staff and learners and receive first-hand information about the available courses and training allowances.
MSLETB works in partnership with the Community Training Centres in Sligo and Leitrim to provide training and education to young unemployed people and early school leavers aged between 16 and 21 years as part of the National Youthreach Programme.
Leitrim CTC first opened for business in October 2017 with a hairdressing programme and is soon to introduce catering as a core training option. These courses are supported with literacy, numeracy, personal development, art, work-experience and recreational activities. All programmes are QQI certified at levels 3 and 4 on the National Framework of Qualifications giving the young people recognition for their learning in the centre while also facilitating an opportunity to progress to further training.
Alternatively, on completion of their training at Leitrim CTC learners have the option to avail of a 6 month link-work programme which together with the support and co-operation of local employers will provide relevant in-company training as a vital step towards gaining meaningful employment.
Leitrim CTC is currently recruiting for all courses. The training courses are free to participants and ETB Training Allowances of up to €198 apply. Childcare, rent and travel allowances apply where applicable. Contact the centre Tel: 071 9621705, Email: email@example.com
