Launch of Sligo Leitrim Services Directory Website

January 18, 2016

In Sligo yesterday (14th January 2016), the launch took place of an online Directory of Services for Sligo Leitrim, www.sligoleitrimdirectory.ie .

This new website provides official listings of over 100 services for children, young people and families in Sligo and Leitrim.  This includes information on health, mental health, education, disability, youth, childcare and other services.

The website hosts information on services relevant to children from pre-birth to young adults (18-24 years).  The target audience includes service providers (e.g. schools, youth services, health services, statutory agencies, voluntary groups, etc.), adults working with children, young people and families, parents / guardians / carers and young people themselves.

The website was developed by the Youth Mental Health Initiative in conjunction with the Sligo Leitrim Children and Young People’s Services Committee (CYPSC).

North Connaught Youth and Community Service (NCYCS) was designated as the lead agency for the website and it will be responsible for its operation and maintenance. There were a number of other agencies involved in the development of the site including the HSE, Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim ETB, Meitheal, Sligo Leitrim Children and Young People’s Services Committee, Sligo Social Services Council and Tusla, Child and Family Agency.

Speaking at the launch, Grace Filan, who along with Hannah Scanlon, was one of the MCs for the day, said that “I think that Sligo Leitrim Directory is the bringing together of many different resources and has resulted in this great website. There are not many places that really take young people’s ideas and voices into account. As a Comhairle na nÓg Sligo member, I am so proud of all the work that has been put into this website.  It’s so reaffirming to see that young people’s opinions and ideas are taken into account”.  Grace and Hannah are both members of Comhairle na nÓg.

Commenting at the launch Mark O’Callaghan, Chairperson of the Youth Mental Health Initiative and Principal Psychologist Manager with the HSE, stated “I am delighted to witness the launch of this website today. It is a fine example of the excellent work that can be achieved when there is effective collaborative working between the relevant agencies groups.”

Anne Brennan, Youth Information Officer with North Connaught Youth and Community Service stated “This will be an invaluable resource for young people in Sligo Leitrim. The purpose of the site is to provide one central point of information on services for children, young people and families in Sligo and Leitrim, usable in both an online and printable format, which is user-friendly, strategically positioned, well known and regularly updated.”

The development of this website was jointly funded by agencies who are members of the Sligo Leitrim Children and Young People’s Services Committee (CYPSC), namely the HSE, Leitrim County Childcare Committee, Leitrim County Council, Leitrim Development Company, Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim ETB, Sligo County Childcare Committee, Sligo County Council, Sligo Leader Partnership Company and Tusla, Child and Family Agency.
