COVID-19 – MSLETB ETB Schools and Centres to remain closed until 19 April 2020

Arising from the announcement by an Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar on 24 March 2020, all MSLETB Schools, Further Education and Training Centres,  Outdoor Education and Training Centre, the Music Education Service and all Evening Training / Night Classes will remain closed until Sunday, 19 April in response to the spread of COVID-19 and following direction from The Department of Education and Skills here.

The HPSC (Health Protection Surveillance Centre) has provided information on the Novel Coronavirus.

What is the Cornonavirus?

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that circulate among animals, including camels, cats and bats, with some causing illness in humans e.g. SARS (civet cats) and MERS (dromedary camels). Rarely, animal coronaviruses can change and infect people and then spread between people such as has been seen with MERS and SARS.

What are the symptoms?

It can take up to 14 days for symptoms of coronavirus to appear.

The main symptoms to look out for are:

  • a cough – this can be any kind of cough, not just dry
  • shortness of breath
  • breathing difficulties
  • fever (High temperature)

Other symptoms are fatigue, headaches, sore throat, aches and pains.
