Castlebar V.T.O.S was set up by Mr. Liam Egan in 1991. His aim which continues today was to give adults who may not have achieved all they wanted through the traditional schooling system, a second chance at education. At Castlebar V.T.O.S the emphasis is on what you can do and what you are interested in doing.
Everyone learns in different ways and the way education is delivered should reflect that. Most subjects favour project-based assessment with the number of exams kept to a minimum. There is a wide range of subjects to choose from and we encourage incoming students to pick and choose a selection of subjects which will best suit their needs and their future goals.
Our QQI Level 5 Awards on offer for this year include:

A Recipe for Success
VTOS started as a somewhat revolutionary template in adult learning. Many years later it is now evolutionary in a sense that many of its’ students having initially arrived stumped and stooped so to speak in their self-perceived lack of skills leave straightened, upright and brimming in confidence.
VTOS is a blueprint for the ‘learning curious’ and for those who wish to ‘stretch their minds’ and update their skills. This can be achieved through the various modules across its spectrum including art, digital photography, computer skills or communications to mention but a few.
The emphasis is on self-assessment, assignment, assurance and soft persuasion and that combined with its excellent tutors makes VTOS a jewel in the crown of adult learning. Its all-embracing, non-effacing and accommodating ethos makes it a unique equal opportunities educator in the field of adult education.
This is not conveyor belt learning producing yellow pack education. It is its own unique brand which blends its own methods and underpins it by its informal social ambience. This makes it a relaxed environment conducive to teaching instruction. It is essentially ‘a social club with a whiteboard’.
So from the whiteboard to the springboard graduating students are delivered to the world like parcels of determination with their confidence on steroids. VTOS really is a mosaic of talent right across the board. Let’s not make any potential deficit of funding issues smother the surplus of talent and opportunities that it creates.
